Boulan Park Middle School earned the No. 7 spot among Michigan's public middle schools in U.S. News & World Report's 2027 rankings, released Tuesday, Oct. 20.
The school, which serves 839 students in grades 6 through 8, scored 99.3 out of 100 in the U.S. News evaluation. That placed it seventh out of 857 ranked middle schools statewide and first among Troy School District middle schools.
Boulan Park's math results stood out. The school ranked second in the state for math proficiency, with 79% of students scoring at or above the proficient level. It ranked 11th statewide in reading proficiency, also at 79%.
Both figures outpace Troy School District middle school averages of 65% in math and 71% in reading, according to U.S. News. They also exceed Michigan's statewide rates of 30% in math and 40% in reading.
The ranking came days after the district posted the fourth-highest SAT scores in Michigan in a separate analysis, as the Troy Beacon reported Oct. 22.
U.S. News ranked more than 24,000 public middle schools across the country for the 2027 edition, according to its Oct. 20 rankings announcement. The rankings are state- and district-level; U.S. News does not produce an overall national ranking for middle schools.
The evaluation considers students' math and reading achievement on state assessments alongside performance in the context of students' demographic backgrounds. The 2027 edition incorporates expanded assessment data gathered from state education agencies by RTI International.
Boulan Park's reported proficiency results are based on assessments from the 2023-2024 school year.
