Troy School District placed fourth among Michigan's traditional public school districts for SAT performance in the 2025-26 school year, with juniors averaging a combined score of 1,137 out of 1,600.

That was 192 points above Michigan's statewide average of 945, according to MLive's statewide district rankings.

Only Novi Community School District, East Grand Rapids Public Schools and Northville Public Schools ranked higher. Their respective averages were 1,186, 1,156 and 1,151.

Forest Hills Public Schools followed Troy at 1,136, just one point behind.

Among other Oakland County districts, Rochester Community School District averaged 1,109, Birmingham Public Schools averaged 1,095 and Bloomfield Hills Schools averaged 1,070.

Troy High among state's top five schools

The districtwide result includes students from Troy High School and Athens High School.

Troy High averaged approximately 1,185, placing fifth statewide among individual schools with at least 20 test takers, according to MLive's school-level analysis.

Athens High averaged 1,094, placing 31st.

The International Academy, an Oakland County magnet school serving students from multiple districts, led Michigan's individual-school rankings with an average of approximately 1,302.

Those school rankings are separate from the district rankings. The International Academy's results should not be treated as part of Troy School District's average.

Michigan's average declines

Michigan's statewide SAT average fell from 954 in 2024-25 to 945 in 2025-26, a nine-point decline, according to the MLive analysis.

The SAT assesses reading, writing and mathematics. Scores range from 400 to 1,600.

Michigan administers the assessment to public school juniors as part of its statewide testing program. The district rankings include traditional public school districts with at least 10 tested students; charter schools were excluded.

The figures provide a comparison of performance on one standardized assessment. They do not, by themselves, establish why districts or schools scored differently.

For Troy families, the results show both high districtwide performance and a difference between the averages at the district's two high schools.

Troy's fourth-place district ranking and Troy High's fifth-place school ranking put both among Michigan's highest-scoring public education systems on the 2026 assessment.
