A Tesla crashed through two bedrooms of a Troy home late Thursday, Oct. 22, narrowly missing the occupants, according to 7 News Detroit.

The crash happened at approximately 10:49 p.m. near the intersection of Sheffield and Wacon drives, according to a Troy Police Department crash report.

Police said the driver of a black 2026 Tesla Model Y was traveling north on Sheffield Drive when the road curved sharply to the right onto Wacon Drive. The vehicle continued straight instead of following the curve.

The Tesla struck a curb, crossed a grassy area and entered a home on Wacon Drive. The police report describes the vehicle passing through the home's front bedroom and into a rear bedroom.

Troy police arrested the driver for operating while intoxicated (OWI). The report identifies careless driving as a hazardous action and alcohol as a suspected contributing factor. Alcohol-test results were listed as pending.

The report does not establish a conviction or indicate whether criminal charges have been filed.

Homeowner Chad Bemb told 7 News Detroit that he and his girlfriend escaped with bumps and bruises. He described freeing himself from debris and helping his girlfriend out through a side window after the impact.

Bemb said the crash left the couple facing extensive damage and uncertainty about whether their home could be repaired.

The Tesla sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Its airbags deployed, according to police.

The police report identifies the vehicle as equipped with automation systems, but lists both the automation level and whether automated driving was engaged during the crash as unknown.

Police have not established the Tesla's speed in the publicly released report.

The official crash report is numbered 260036336. It documents the vehicle's path through the residence and the driver's OWI arrest but does not establish the outcome of the investigation.
