Troy will begin processing and tabulating absentee ballots Thursday, Oct. 29, five days before the Nov. 3 general election.

City Clerk Aileen Dickson’s public notice states that the city’s Absent Voter Counting Board will convene at 9 a.m. at the Troy Community Center, 3179 Livernois Road.

The board will consist of 38 election inspectors. The notice was posted Oct. 15.

Michigan allows cities and townships with populations of at least 5,000 to process and tabulate absentee ballots during the eight days before an election, according to the Michigan Secretary of State.

Results are not released before polls close at 8 p.m. on Election Day.

The city’s notice states that the number of absentee ballots tabulated each day must be posted on its website and in the clerk’s office. Those figures report ballot counts, rather than candidate or proposal results.

Troy’s Election Commission was scheduled to approve election inspector assignments and conduct a public accuracy test of voting equipment Oct. 12 at City Hall, according to a separate commission notice.
