Two people stole more than $50,000 worth of copper foil rolls from a Troy industrial supplier, according to a Troy Police Department crime summary.
The theft occurred at Trystar, 1955 Stephenson Highway, at 10:43 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8. The business reported that two people entered a secured area and took the copper, police said in the bulletin.
WWJ Newsradio 950 reported that police had not released descriptions of the two people. A Troy police sergeant told the station the investigation remained ongoing as of Tuesday, Oct. 13.
The Trystar facility is also scheduled to close. The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity earlier this year, according to WhatNow Detroit.
The filing lists the same Stephenson Highway address. Layoffs affecting 71 workers were scheduled between Sept. 4 and Dec. 31 as the company relocates operations, WhatNow reported. The publication said the filing did not explain the move or identify a new location.
Founded in 1991 and headquartered in Faribault, Minnesota, Trystar makes electrical power infrastructure and backup power equipment for industries including data centers, healthcare, telecommunications and construction, according to WhatNow’s report.
Anyone with information about the theft should contact the Troy Police Department at 248-524-3477.
