Troy High and Troy Athens will be part of an expanded Oakland Activities Association in fall 2027, when five schools join the league.
Grand Blanc and Davison will leave the Saginaw Valley League after the 2026-27 school year, WNEM reported in June. OAA principals approved their admission after athletic directors endorsed the additions in March, according to the Clarkston News.
Novi, Northville and Clawson will also join in 2027. Northville Public Schools announced that Northville and Novi will spend one final school year in the Kensington Lakes Activities Association before making the move.
“Starting in 2027, we have Novi, Northville, Grand Blanc, Davison and Clawson joining the OAA,” Clarkston Athletic Director Jeff Kosin, who served on the expansion committee, told the Clarkston News.
The changes follow Farmington and North Farmington’s departure from the OAA. Their high schools joined the Lakes Valley Conference for the 2026-27 school year, according to Farmington Public Schools’ transition announcement.
Grand Blanc arrives with a strong football program. The Bobcats improved to 8-0 and secured their third straight SVL South championship Friday, Oct. 16, beating Davison 28-21, MLive reported.
Grand Blanc produced 435 total yards. Junior quarterback Jake DeWitt threw for 181 yards, and senior Alvin Jenkins recovered a punt that bounced off a Davison player with 1:59 remaining to help seal the win.
“It was resilience and toughness,” Grand Blanc head coach Kaleb Forr told MLive. “We had a lot of guys go down and other guys stepped up.”
Troy and Athens currently compete in the five-team OAA White football division alongside Stoney Creek, Rochester and Bloomfield Hills. Stoney Creek finished league play 4-0, followed by Rochester at 3-1, Athens at 2-2, Bloomfield Hills at 1-3 and Troy at 0-4, according to michigan-football.com.
Travel was among the expansion committee’s considerations, Kosin told the Clarkston News. Grand Blanc and Davison are relatively close to Clarkston but farther from other OAA members.
Davison Athletic Director Dave Beamer described the move as strategic, while Grand Blanc administrators said joining the OAA would create opportunities beyond athletics, according to the Clarkston News.
