Troy High’s girls volleyball team clinched the Oakland Activities Association White Division championship Thursday, Oct. 15, beating crosstown rival Troy Athens 3-2.

The five-set road victory completed an 8-0 league season for the Colts, according to MaxPreps. The school’s athletics department announced the title Thursday night.

The championship comes in Scott Germansky’s first season as Troy’s head coach. The school announced his appointment in April, citing coaching experience at Baker Middle School and Stoney Creek High School. He was also coaching Athens High School’s varsity boys volleyball team at the time, according to the Colts athletics department.

Troy swept Wylie E. Groves 3-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 13, before traveling to Athens two days later. The Red Hawks pushed the Colts to a decisive fifth set before Troy secured the victory.

The closing stretch of league play also included a 3-1 win at Berkley on Oct. 6 and a 3-0 sweep at Avondale on Oct. 8.

Troy had beaten Athens 2-0 in a nonleague match Oct. 10, five days before their championship-clinching rematch.

MaxPreps listed Troy at 13-15 overall following Thursday’s victory.

The Colts are scheduled to host Franklin on Thursday, Oct. 22, and Lakeland on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Michigan High School Athletic Association district play begins Nov. 2, with brackets scheduled to be announced Oct. 25, according to an MHSAA volleyball report.
